FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sheldon Gives Back and You Can Too!

Join Sheldon B. Green, the mascot of the Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District, this holiday season by giving more and gifting less!  You may have spotted Sheldon out and about the county giving back to various local charitable organizations.  By giving gifts of time, hugs, trees and friendliness Sheldon has “greened” the season by creating no waste and giving back to our community.  You can do the same by
participating in the Big GREEN Give on November 21, 2009 from 1-5pm at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Complex!

The Big GREEN Give is an alternative gift-giving fair centered on giving back to local and regional charities that need our support now more than ever.  Participating organizations will offer gift packages tailored to fit the needs of their organization.  Below is a list of participating organizations and the invaluable gift packages that they will be offering at the Big GREEN Give.

• Sheltering Wings - Shelter for victims of domestic violence
• Kingsway Community Care Center - Free dental care
• Wheeler Mission Ministries - Food, shelter and care of the homeless
• Avon-Washington Township Parks & Recreation - Flower beds, trees, and trail signs
• Parks Foundation of Hendricks County - Reforestation in McCloud Nature Park and Fishing pier at the new Guilford Township park

• Friends of the Shelter -Vaccinations, micro-chipping for rescued animals
• Providence Wildlife Rehabilitation - Food and care for rehabilitated animals

Come and enjoy this FREE event filled with live music, snacks, green door prizes, a trash to treasure holiday decoration session for kids presented by the Hendricks County Park and Recreation Department and lots and lots of GIVING!  Even the recycled decorations – provided by second graders from around Hendricks County – will be donated to those in need of a beautiful Christmas tree.

At this time of year, and in this economy, it seems so many are struggling – wouldn’t it be great to really live out the meaning of the season and help others with our donations?  Come join with others from the community to share a festive afternoon and make a difference at the Big GREEN Give!
